ABOUT THE CERTIFICATION

The AES Kanban Essentials certification recognizes solid knowledge of the 6 general practices and the core principles focused on visualizing the flow, managing work in progress (WIP) and delivering value continuously.

It also ensures a practical understanding of the key roles, events and metrics of the Kanban system, so that the professional has the skills needed to collaborate effectively in a pull system and take an active part in the evolutionary improvement of processes in any Kanban environment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge and understanding of the Kanban Principles and Practices:

  • Visualize the workflow: Creating and managing the Kanban board.
  • Limit work in progress (WIP): Setting limits to avoid overload.
  • Manage flow: Identifying bottlenecks and blockers.
  • Make policies explicit: Defining clear rules (DoD, entry criteria).
  • Implement feedback loops: Taking part in meetings (Kanban Meeting).
  • Improve collaboratively: Evolving the system based on the scientific method.

Basic knowledge of the operational elements of a Kanban system:

  • Roles and responsibilities: Understanding roles such as the Service Delivery Manager or the Service Request Manager.
  • Flow metrics: Basic understanding of Lead Time, Cycle Time and Throughput.
  • Pull vs. push systems: Telling demand-driven management apart from traditional work assignment.
  • Classes of service: Prioritizing tasks according to their urgency and impact.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Pass the AES Kanban Essentials certification exam.

EXAM DETAILS

Test format: Online exam.
Time limit: 60 minutes.
Question types: Single choice, multiple choice, True/False.
Number of attempts: 3 attempts (the access code expires once you pass or after the third attempt).
Total questions: 80.

Passing score: 80% (64 correct answers).
